Stress & Anxiety

Anxiety in its natural function alerts us to potential threats, allowing us to evaluate and respond to them in appropriate ways. In life, it can be an indicator that something is out of alignment.  But what happens when it’s a false alarm? Or the alarm is defective? You feel stuck in circular patterns of thought that impair your ability to make decisions, increased feelings of irritability, feelings of depression and difficulties concentrating.

Uncertainty surrounding careers, relationships and social acceptance can be normal in triggering feelings of anxiety and depression. Everyone else around you seems to be doing well, but you feel uncertain, disappointed and confused.  Societal pressures often add to the problem by highlighting your shortcomings and painting a false picture of reality.

The benefits of psychotherapy can help you change negative thought patterns that are often associated with anxiety and depression. Therapy can help you develop an awareness of what you feel, why you feel that way and what your triggers are. And while it’s easy avoid this process, getting lost in social media or binge watching, nothing is more effective than self-reflection.

At Perspective Counseling we encourage you to be curious about your life and your choices, asking yourself the difficult questions and allowing yourself the space and courage to answer them honestly.

By looking at these worries from a more realistic and less harmful way, therapy can reveal strategies to help make life a little easier and help soften the stress. During this self-investigative process, we can work to understand subconscious conflicts and identify ineffective coping mechanisms and refocus your energy to your ultimate goal.
